Are you looking to volunteer with an interesting charity? Do you want to gain new skills? Do you like the great outdoors? Are you willing to work as part of a team? Can you spare 1 day per week?
Eskdale Mill is a Grade 2* listed working watermill that opens its doors to the public in order to provide memorable experiences for family groups wanting to find out more about the local heritage and industry from a by-gone era. It hosts a unique exhibition with working wheels, milling machinery and woodland and garden grounds for people to spend time in.
As a small heritage charity, this all requires regular support from enthusiastic volunteers. Mill attendants, receptionists, mill operatives, DIY enthusiasts, landscapers and gardeners are needed straight away to support our programme delivery here at Eskdale Mill.
These are interesting opportunities to work within a small historical complex and idyllic grounds dating back to the 1500’s whilst also enhancing our visitor experience, keep our wheels running smoothly and enhance our grounds. Now that the mill has undergone major restoration works, the Mill Manager requires practical support and team workers to help deliver our visitor services, manage our garden and maintain our buildings and grounds.
We require more mill attendants to be on hand to provide support to visitors as and when they require help or have questions.
Numeracy, public interface and IT skills are needed for the reception area but training will be given.
The mill operation itself is an active role and requires patience, good observational skills, good health and safety consideration and practical know-how, although all training will be provided.
Gardeners and practical enthusiasts will require an ability to work independently although as part of a team. Safe working systems need to be employed at all times.
Travel expenses will be reimbursed. Paid parking is available at Dalegarth station as car parking is limited in Boot village.
All training and PPE will be provided. Due to the historical building and and associated grounds, wheelchair access is limited but possible. For some of the opportunities, physical capability is essential. Covid-safe measures have been introduced recently which you’ll need to comply with.
