This is a great opportunity for someone to help produce a design and building plan for a sea cadet unit. We have a set of requirements to work with, it isn’t a complex building and measures approx 10m x 7m footprint, as a 2 storey building. We would like the design produced in CAD which will then help us to obtain costings for the build.
It’s great for someone to start a design from scratch with a set of requirements, and if someone would benefit from further experience using CAD.
As a bit of background, we offer a wide range of water and land-based activities and opportunities for young people and volunteers, all underpinned by a nautical ethos based on the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy. This includes the opportunity to attend courses, camps, competitions and events, take part in offshore voyages and overseas adventures, chances to work for and gain recognised qualifications and to develop life skills, underpinned by adventure and friendship.
Our former unit building on Old New Quay, Whitehaven was damaged beyond repair by a tidal surge during winter storms in December 2013 which saw wind speeds reach over 90mph. The local community came to our rescue and we paraded temporarily in Whitehaven Police Station before kindly being allowed the temporary use of our current home on Carter Lane just behind Dixons department store.
We now have an option for a long-term home but the next hurdle is to design the unit based on land available - ensuring we can build the unit based on our requirements, within regulations and the space we have.
